REAL stands for Relevant, Engaging, Active Learning – the kind of learning where students feel connected to what they’re doing, energized by the experience, and actively involved in making sense of ideas. REAL Science is the work of understanding how to create those conditions.
- What helps learning feel genuinely relevant? What makes it engaging?
- What gets in the way of active learning – and how do we remove those obstacles?
- And, most importantly, how is our rapidly changing world (AI included) demanding that we rethink how learning happens?
About me
With more than 20 years of teaching and school‑level leadership, I’ve helped shape curriculum and assessment practices across classrooms, districts, and education organizations (including ASCD and NSTA). My work in equitable grading and assessment redesign has taken me across North America, where I’ve trained and supported over 1,500 educators and administrators. Together, we’ve improved clarity, fairness, and student engagement in assessment – creating more meaningful learning experiences for thousands of students.
